Who am I?

Namaste everyone,

My name is Naseem, and I am a newly experienced mom to a calm, sweet and joyful 2.5 year old toddler boy, who is blossoming every day. I love to explore to world, having travelled to several countries in search of meaning, purpose, health and healing. I left and found my heart in India, which changed my world view forever.  I love to dance, listen to world music, eat dosas and enjoy a pint of Guinness, being of Indo-Irish descent and all.

I am also a Yoga Teacher Trainer, Curriculum Developer, Program Coordinator, and Writer. I recently wrote a manual for the Yoga Teacher Training Program I created at Langara College. It took me 8 years of developing, and a few years of writing to get it done, but I feel super proud of my work today. It is hard not to be critical at times, and trust that the rush of inspiration will come. But it did, and I am giving myself a pat on the back for all the hard work of myself and my team. This has been a year of recognition, having also recently won an award in the Indo-Canadian community for my contribution to Yoga and Wellness in BC.

I enrolled in the Health Education and Active Living program because my manager at work told me to do so - she is my mentor and guide. I also applied to learn, to be a student, to question and understand my theories, to expand my comfort zones and to grow. I am a passionate supporter of experiential, somatic, and holistic living.

My understanding is that the mind/body is very interconnected, and is in fact one in the same. Many people in our society are very disconnected, as well as our medical and educational systems. There is fragmentation, separation, psycho-somatic diseases and environmental destruction as a result of this disconnect. The connection between mind/body is a very important relationship that needs to be studied and practiced daily. I believe it starts with each individual and then expands outwards.

From this experience over the next two years, I would like to be open to possibilities, learn from my teachers and peers, and research theories. There are so many areas I would like to explore further after the first weekend. My mind is racing in many directions, so focus and direction is greatly appreciated!

I can contribute experiential practices like breath work, holistic yoga, mantra and meditation. As well as sharing cookies and recipes.
